On September 28th, Remote Theater Project welcomed Little Amal to walk in Lower East Side and Chinatown. The beauty of the event surpassed our expectations. Embrace the Tangle made connections between the Yiddish and Chinese immigrant histories of the neighborhood. How do we welcome a stranger? According to our fantastic Yiddish artist Jenny Romaine, the only way that makes us grow, love each other and love ourselves is to honor the tangle we are in together. Our intention is love. Until next time, Little Amal!

Embrace the Tangle did not just happen in one day. We spent weeks engaging the whole Lower East Side and Chinatown communities to join us and paint welcome messages and cultural symbols shared by Yiddish and Chinese cultures on over 400 ft laundry. Thank you kids and families at Chinatown Water Festival and Seward Park! Thank you, Chinatown Youth Initiatives!

Along on Amal's route, accompanied by 12 lines of laundry Amal was guided by VICTORIA, the tour guide from Tenement Museum, greeted by Marvin Marcus, the president of Janina Synagogue, met with Frank London's Klezmer brass band, the Open Door Senior Chorus, Choy Lay Fut percussion, and the puppet Zhongkui from Chinese Theatre Works.
