The Remote Theater Project brings theater artists who are isolated either geographically or politically to New York City to develop new work, tour internationally and have their voices heard outside the confines of their region.
The inaugural project focused on theater artists from Palestine. Beginning in Spring 2016, we reached out to Palestinian actors throughout the West Bank and within Israel to create a new ensemble to perform an original play by Amir Nizar Zuabi, one of the leading theater directors and playwrights in the Middle East.
Zuabi wrote GREY ROCK an original play exploring US influence on Palestinian culture which had its global premiere at La MaMa Theater in New York City in January, 2019. Grey Rock stars Khalifa Natour, as Yousef the former TV repairman building a rocket in the shed in his backyard to reach the moon.
